Joe Brown
Lead Pastor
“I love beautiful things.”
Joe's love for beauty runs deep. Growing up in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, he developed a profound appreciation for nature, history, and art. However, it was in high school, through a Young Life club, that Joe discovered the most beautiful thing of all: the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Saved by grace, held by grace, and emboldened by grace, Joe rests in the firm grasp of a God who is making all things new.
After graduating from college, Joe felt called to share his faith, first with Young Life and then with the local church. Over the years, he has served churches in North Carolina and Georgia, including the past 18 years at West End Presbyterian Church in Henrico.
Speaking of beautiful things, Joe and his wife, Blair, have been together since the last millennium. They have raised four wonderful children, along with numerous dogs and cats—all named after Peanuts characters (the pets, not the kids!).
Outside of the office, you might find Joe texting his kids, biking on the Virginia Capital Trail, reading a good book, watching a movie, or lamenting the most recent loss by the Carolina Panthers or Chicago Cubs.
Joe is excited to be a part of other Goochlanders working to create a new community of faith in our beautiful county. He understands what it feels like to be on the outside and uncertain, and he is most energized when talking with the curious or listening to those who are hurting. The Gospel of Jesus is deep enough for our questions, broad enough for our hurts, and beautiful enough for those who are struggling. The Gospel truly is the most beautiful thing.
