Grounded

We are a people who are grounded in Jesus Christ

The Gospel, as presented in the Scriptures, reveals Jesus Christ as the source and substance of the message of the church. In a world filled with uncertainty, we take refuge in the crucified and risen Lord. He is a perfect and loving Savior, and we can approach Him confidently, receive His mercy and find strength in the Holy Spirit. This is not because of anything we have done, but because of God's work on our behalf (Eph. 2:8-10). We can rest, trusting that the One who conquered sin and death will uphold us by His power. Being grounded in the gracious gospel of Jesus, as explained in the historical creeds and confessions of the church in the reformed faith, we can be a people who are grounded.

Growing

We are a people who are growing in our love for God and others

The gospel enables us to love God and others. We can grow in this love because of the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, who shepherds His people into an unbroken communion with God. “Abide in me, and I in you… for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5). We can take risks and step out of ourselves because our value and worth is rooted in Christ, not in our own abilities or accomplishments. Christ's finished work on the cross provides the security and confidence we need to grow in our Christlikeness and to boldly try new things for the sake of the gospel. After all, if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31-39). Because of this, we are a church that grows.

Good

We are a people who are good to one another and to our community.

When God created the cosmos, He called His creation “very good” (Gen. 1:31). Goodness is both an attribute of God Himself (Psalm 34:8) and a command to His people (Isaiah 1:17, Micah 6:8). We seek to cultivate a culture of goodness, kindness, mercy, and justice in our church and beyond. We are a church who strives to be a light to our community by actively working in mission and service with transparency and accountability (one of the bedrocks of the presbyterian form of government). No matter the creed or race, being made in God's image means that all human life has sacred value and deserves to be treated with respect. As God's children, we are not merely a means to an end but each have intrinsic worth as image-bearers of our Creator. We are a church that strives to be good.

What We Believe

As a mission church in the James River Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), we are deeply committed to the authority of Scripture, the historic Christian faith, and the transforming power of the Gospel. We believe that the good news of Jesus—His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection—is not just the foundation of our faith but the lens through which we view all of life.

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and this truth shapes everything we do, from worship to discipleship to our engagement with the world. The Gospel is not only our means of salvation but also the power that renews our hearts, restores relationships, and fuels our mission. The Gospel changes everything!

We are a missional church, believing that God calls His people to participate in His work of renewal and restoration. The Gospel compels us to love our neighbors, seek justice, and be a faithful presence in our city and culture. We desire to engage both the heart and mind, communicating the hope of Christ in a way that is thoughtful, gracious, and compelling.
